What is breast cancer?


Breast cancer is a malignant condition that develops when abnormal breast tissue cells starts to grow. An abnormal breast tissue cells formed and mulitplied to create a abnormal mass of cells.


⚠️What is the risk factors for developing breast cancer?


  • Genetics & family history: when a family member (mother, sister, grandmother) had been diagnosed with breast cancer or any other cancers related to female reproductive system (endometrial cancer, cervical cancer)

  • Previous medical history: when you have been previosuly diagnosed with breast cancer or other gender related cancers.

  • Age, the risk for breast cancer developing increases with age.

  • Hormonal changes due to starting menstruation early or late menopause.

  • Smoking & drinking

  • Overweight & obesity especially during menopause.

  • Unactive lifestyle


What is the symptoms? 🔆

  • A breast lump or thickened area of the skin.

  • Changes in size, shape or breast form.

  • Changes in the colour of the breast skin.

  • Changes in nipple form and colour & abnormal discharge (flattened or turned inward)

  • Changes in the skin over the breast such as peeling, scaling, flaking iron crusting etc.


What is BRCA❓❓


BRCA stands for BReast CAncer gene. It is a group of genes or gene mutations that shows a relation to an increased risk of developing breast cancer.


Is a person tested positive for the BRCA genes, they should get more regular check ups, mammograms and sonars.


Who should consider testing for the BRCA gene? 🧬

  • If you have a personal history of breast cancer.

  • A relative diagnosed with the BRCA gene mutation.

  • Family members who had breast cancer or other related cancers such as endometrial- or cervical cancer.


🤷‍♂️Can men get breast cancer?


Yes, although it is less common, men can also develop breast cancer because they also have breast tissue.


The following men are at higher risk:

  • Men taking estrogen supplementation

  • BRCA positive test

  • Family history

  • Obesity
