10 Healthy Summer tips
Now that summer is in full swing, it’s time to make sure to be healthy and protected.
Living your best life is not only preventing and treating communicable diseases like heart failure, stroke, cancer etc., but also protecting yourself on a daily basis against the sun, staying hidrated, being active, relaxing and having fun.
Warm summer weather holds many many benefits for a healthy body and mind. Here is a few healthy summer tips:
Soak up the vitamin D
Vitamin D helps to promote healthy and strong bones and is a mega immune booster helping yo reduce inflammation in the body.
Get in some extra vitamin D this summer by soaking it in directly from the sun or eating vitamin D-rich foods like salmon, egg yolks, liver, red meat, mushrooms and oranges.
Drink water
Not only is drinking water healthy in general but especially during the summer days.
Drinking enough water will ensure healthy bones and muscles, help maintain weight and fuel your body for summer activities.
Eat fresh and cool foods
During winter time our body craves warm, comfort food, but during summer the heat of the day can decrease our appetites.
Use this opportunity to eat fresh fruit and cool foods to satisfy the body’s need for extra hydration.
This also leaves the opportunity to boost your mood and lower blood pressure by taking care of your own fresh produce.
Stay active
Staying active during summer time whether it is doing family activities or exercising, hiking, running etc., is a great way to boost your mood and keep the body healthy and in shape.
Staying active will have longterm benefits such as lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, anxiety, and depression.
Sleep well
Getting quality sleep will help you protect and improve your mental and physical health, safety and quality of life.

Stay shady
Although the sun has plenty of health benefits, it’s still very important to protect your skin from sunburn and prevent any skin damage or risk of skin cancer.
Using a proper and high SPF sunscreen regularly is very important for skin protection. Sunscreen should be applied every 2 hours especially during outdoor activities and swimming.
Remember you should also wear sunscreen when staying indoors, as the UV rays still penetrates windows etc.
Disconnect
Make time to disconnect frim social media, your cellphone or whatever else removes you frim enjoying all that summer time can give you.
Take a break.
Plan a personal getaway
Take time to get away, relax and enjoy yourself. So often we get caught up in our routines and daily life.
Take time to plan a getaway from your daily routine and life. Planning a getaway does not necessarily mean a vacation etc., but an intentional plan to get away from the daily routine and life we get so stuck on sometimes.
Stay cool
Staying cool and avoiding heat exhaustion and stroke is very important during summertime.

Schedule your yearly visit to your doctor for a complete health checkup and make sure you start the year with a healthy body and mind.
